We are delighted to announce that Malek Wan Daud of Garden Court Chambers has been shortlisted for Junior Barrister of the Year at the Family Law Awards 2015.
Malek was shortlisted for the award by a judging panel made up of the heads of the four family practitioners’ associations, the Family Law Bar Association, Resolution, the Association of Lawyers for Children, and CILEx, along with Family Law editors.
Malek specialises in complex care proceedings. He is regularly instructed in contact and residence disputes, often with an international dimension. He represents parents facing allegations of sexual and physical abuse, and he also represents children and local authorities.
He was a trustee for the only nationwide LGBT domestic violence organisation where he helped secure Home Office funding for a helpline and other frontline work. He is a member of the Ministry of Justice Muslim Marriage Working Group and a member of the Vulnerable Witnesses and Children Working Group. Malek has also lectured on Female Genital Mutilation and its consequences both in criminal and family Law.
In 2011, Malek was appointed to the Family Justice Council where he was responsible for their extensive work on interpreters in Family Courts. His appointment resulted in extensive reform to improve access to justice.
Malek was called to the Bar in 1991 and he is a member of the Garden Court Chambers Family Team. The Family Law Awards take place on 8 October at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London.
