Russell Fraser and Hugh Mullan represented AN and JG in the trial, in which seven men were tried for attempted murder.
In October 2023, the defendants were all students of universities in Birmingham and Coventry. The HMV Empire in Coventry hosted a freshers' week event which ended at 3am on 6 October. Outside, the defendants ended up in a confrontation in which the victim was chased down and stabbed several times. Both men had been unaware of weapons being used, and denied sharing any intention to either kill or cause the complainant really serious harm.
