Kelsey Jones had been convicted in 2019 at Mold Crown Court of offences of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and false imprisonment and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

His trial counsel had advised him that he had no grounds to appeal the sentence. However, when the case was sent to David Emanuel QC, he disagreed, and drafted grounds of appeal and an application to extend the time to appeal. Today the Court of Appeal extended the time to appeal by 862 days and allowed the appeal, reducing the sentence to 9 years imprisonment.

David Emanuel QC was instructed by Shaun Draycott of Draycott Browne Solicitors, Manchester.
