Homelessness statistics: on 25 September 2014 the Department of Communities and Local Government released its latest homelessness statistics showing that as of 30 June 2014, 59,710 homeless households had been placed in temporary accommodation, a 6% increase on the same date in 2013. Of these, 640 were households with children who had been placed in B&B accommodation for more than the statutory limit of six weeks: a decrease of 14% since the same date in 2013. Immigration Act 2014: the Home Office has announced that the new measures contained in the Immigration Act 2014 prohibiting landlord’s from renting accommodation to certain migrants, and placing a duty on them to check the immigration status of prospective tenant’s, are to be piloted in Birmingham, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley and Wolverhampton beginning on 1 December 2014.
