Shiraz Aziz has represented a woman who was convicted yesterday on multiple counts of benefit fraud, worth £200,000.

Gladys Popoola had fraudulently claimed over £200,000 over a six-year period. At the same time she had multiple jobs and was receiving rental income from a portfolio of properties in London and in Kenya. Part of the deception involved Popoola declaring that she was living as a lone parent when in fact she was living with her husband.

An experienced criminal defence barrister with a specialism in fraud, Shiraz had told the jury at Southwark Crown Court "there have been multiple frauds over a significant period but not all were fraudulent from the outset, I will seek to argue."
