Sarah Hemingway, and Darren White of Deighton Peirce Glynn solicitors, represented Mr Albert and Mrs Hemsley in successfully negotiating a significant financial settlement and lengthy apology.

The young married couple were of white British and black African ethnic origin. They argued that they had suffered racial harassment over a significant period (well over a year) in a small rural village in Kent and, although the police were called on numerous occasions to investigate complaints between the neighbours, they failed to take appropriate action in the circumstances.

The Chief Constable of Kent Police settled a race discrimination claim that alleged they had failed to take adequate steps to protect a young family from racial harassment from their neighbours. The Claimants received £50,000 in damages and an extensive written apology.
