The Court of Appeal today quashed the Appellant’s sentence of thirty months and replaced it with a sentence of twenty-three months.

In May 2023, the Appellant, Richard Fox, pleaded guilty to an offence of violent disorder. See BBC News Coverage here

The proceedings concerned a ‘Kill the Bill’ protest in March 2021 in Bristol. See Guardian coverage here.

The Appellant had been involved in the early part of the disturbance which later resulted in damage to Bristol’s main police station and the burning of police vehicles.

The appeal court agreed the sentencing court had been wrong to increase the starting point of the sentence by the margin it did and accordingly reduced the sentence.
