On 20 November 2016 Muhammad Rabbani, Director of Cage was stopped under the Terrorism Act at Heathrow Airport on his return to the UK. Cage is an independent London-based advocacy organisation working to empower communities impacted by the War on Terror and to highlight abuses of due process.
When stopped and asked to provide officers with access to his phone and laptop which contained confidential information on an alleged victim of torture, he refused. As a result he was charged under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act which makes it illegal to 'willfully obstruct, or seek to frustrate, a search or examination.'
