Both Michael Hoolickin and Matthew McKenzie were killed by offenders who had been released from prison on licence and were being supervised by the probation service in the community.

In a special investigative feature by Granada Reports, ‘Licenced to Kill’, figures obtained by way of a Freedom of Information request were revealed to Michael and Matthew’s families.

Michael and Matthew’s families were shocked to discover that three offenders in the Rochdale area, nine in Greater Manchester and 67 offenders nationally committed murder or manslaughter whilst on licence and being supervised by the probation service.

The feature can be viewed on the ITV website.
