Good luck to Georgie, one of our junior tenants, who is today starting her 12-week placement at Thorndon Chambers in Wellington, New Zealand, after being awarded a Pegasus Scholarship.

Georgie is delighted to be undertaking a Pegasus Scholarship, coordinated by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and Crown Office Law New Zealand, between September 2023 and January 2024.

The Pegasus Scholarship Trust aims to build links between common law legal professions across the world, making it possible for selected young lawyers to learn about the practical working of the common law system in different countries and to form enduring links with lawyers in those jurisdictions.

Whilst working at Thorndon Chambers, Georgie will be providing support in a wide-range of civil litigation and public law cases; she is excited to be working on cases at all levels up, to the Supreme Court of New Zealand, at the interface of Crown and Māori relations - constitutional law, judicial review, equity, indigenous rights, and Treaty of Waitangi law.

Georgie is developing a broad public law practice, whilst specialising in immigration & asylum, housing, education, and community care law. Georgie's journey into tenancy was kicked off by her nomination as a finalist for Young Pro Bono Barrister of the Year in 2022.

During her first year as a tenant at Garden Court Chambers, Georgie has become involved in all aspects of chambers life, providing legal updates for practitioners online and in person.

We look forward to hearing updates on Georgie's placement and will be sharing her report in the new year, which is due to be published by the Inns of Court in both the UK and New Zealand.

Georgie will be accepting further instructions in the New Year.
