David Watkinson recently highlighted the status of individual occupiers faced with ambiguities and inconsistencies in the law which typically lead to widespread injustices.

In a detailed letter to The Times newspaper published on July 24, David and other leading authorities on social housing flagged up the need for housing law to be reformed on coherent principles to provide for an effective legal framework for housing policy to develop. Ensuring the adoption of the rented homes bill (attached to the Law Commission Report Renting Homes in 2006) into the government's legislative programme would create a more transparent system, commanding wide support from landlords, tenants and housing professionals.
