The jury returned not guilty verdicts on allegations of murder against two defendants, represented by Anya Lewis KC leading Stella Harris and David Emanuel KC leading Lucie Wibberley, after a six-week trial involving five defendants at the Central Criminal Court.
The case involved allegations that five men armed with knives and machetes had burst into a residential home in East London with the intention of stealing valuable items. During the incident one of the residents was stabbed to death by one of the defendants.
The prosecution argued that all the defendants were guilty of murder under the principle of joint enterprise. Neither Anya nor David's clients gave evidence – both were acquitted of murder.
