Beatrice Prevatt appointed a District Judge

We are proud to announce that Beatrice Prevatt has been appointed by the Queen to be a District Judge. The Lord Chief Justice has deployed her to the South Eastern Circuit, based in the East London Family Court with effect from 18 April 2016.

Beatrice was called to the Bar in 1985 and joined Garden Court Chambers in 1995, She is widely considered to be a leading housing practitioner and has expertise in homelessness; Children Act and Community Care duties, accommodation issues for asylum seekers, security of tenure, illegal eviction and harassment, and disrepair. She is also a trained mediator and was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2013.

Beatrice has contributed to numerous housing law publications, including Landlord and tenant Review and Current Law’. Described in the Legal 500 2015 as “The queen of disrepair disputes”, she currently writes the annual ‘Repairs Round-Up’ for Legal Action Group and has co-authored the 5th edition of Repairs: tenants’ rights.

Beatrice will be greatly missed at Garden Court. However, the judiciary has gained an excellent District Judge and we wish her all the best for her future.
