We are proud to have jointly won Highly Commended at The Lawyer Awards 2022 for Pro Bono Initiative of the Year.
Members of our Public Law and Immigration Teams, together with Eversheds Sutherland, Wilsons Solicitors and Mishcon de Reya, were part of a pro bono initiative to assist members of the Afghan judiciary and legal profession to secure UK visas.
This involved collectively issuing six judicial reviews against the Government to gain visas for female Afghan judges, many of whom have been forced into hiding since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021.
Principal members of our Garden Court team involved in the initiative included Sonali Naik QC, Irena Sabic, Maha Sardar, Ali Bandegani, Emma Fitzsimons, Maria Moodie and David Sellwood.
