Practice

Called to the bar in 1989, Alistair is a criminal defence specialist with particular expertise in murder and sex offences. He is increasingly instructed as leading counsel. Alistair also has considerable experience of serious firearms matters, large scale drug importation and a busy and varied appellate practice. He also handles crime related judicial review and case stated matters.

The preferred choice of his instructing solicitors Alistair combines a down to earth manner with meticulous attention to detail. An impressive jury advocate and with a real flair for appellate work, Alistair is regularly selected for cases that need a determined and incisive approach.

Recent and on-going trial and appellate work includes false imprisonment, stabbings, arson with intent, murder conviction appeals, IPPs and minimum terms. He also deals with parole hearing, mainly lifer applications.

Rape and indecent assaults by father on all three of his children over an 18-year period. Minimum period successfully appealed.

R v Jane Wilson, Blackfriars Crown Court
Defendant stabbed complainant in the eye with a pen, requiring operation to remove nib. Defence: accident. Verdict: not guilty.

Murder trial led by David Spens QC.
