Rwanda High Court Judgment: implications and next steps

The leading Immigration and Public Law teams of Garden Court Chambers held a joint discussion of the High Court’s recent decision regarding the lawfulness of removing asylum seekers to Rwanda. 

This judgment raises fundamental issues regarding access to justice and the UK’s respect for the international legal order. Our immigration and public law teams have been at the heart of the legal actions brought to ensure fair play.

Although the headline outcome of the judgment was that the government can lawfully make arrangements for relocating asylum seekers to Rwanda for their claims to be determined, the Court was clear that they must consider properly the circumstances of each claimant, to decide if there is anything specific to them that makes relocation unsuitable. 

The lengthy and complex litigation also covered several key issues in the field of immigration and asylum law. This webinar broke those issues down and provided clarity and guidance to practitioners and others working with asylum seekers.
