Marketing & Communications Officer

Marketing & Communications Officer Duties

We are seeking to recruit a Marketing & Communications Officer to:

  1. Promote chambers through high quality marketing communications with an emphasis on innovation and continuous improvement.
  2. Develop and deliver marketing plans for chambers and practice teams.
  3. Line manage a full-time Marketing & Events Assistant including managing workloads, setting targets, providing training and annual appraisals.
  4. Maintain the currency of website content, ensuring copy is of high quality and SEO compliant. Develop new ideas on how the website can be regularly improved. Identify and write regular news stories for the website. Maintain key pages, including practice team pages, barrister profiles and event pages. Increase the volume and quality of traffic to our website, informed by regular monitoring and reporting of Google Analytics, and advice from external SEO agencies where needed.
  5. Plan and manage seminars and events with particular support from the Marketing & Events Assistant, including publicity, event programmes, venue management, speaker liaison, format, content production and distribution, attendance, hospitality, feedback and CPD.
  6. Produce digital and printed promotional collateral, liaising with practice teams and external designers and suppliers.
  7. Promote chambers through social media channels, particularly our Twitter accounts: @gardencourtlaw, @GCCcivillibs, @GardenCtPublic and @gcchousing. Conceive content for social media. Engage with our key clients through social media. Grow our followers and engagement on social through targeted and creative campaigns. Understand and improve our audience on social through analytics.
  8. Deliver well-targeted, high quality email marketing and maintaining knowledge of how best to use our email marketing systems. Measure the effectiveness of email marketing by monitoring and reporting on click rates.
  9. Produce timely and high quality submissions across 17 areas of law for the legal directories, Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500, with the purpose of improving our rankings. Preparing barristers for interviews with the directories. Promote rankings and awards on practice team pages, barrister profiles and marketing collateral.
  10. Respond to media enquiries and support the teams with proactive media engagement. Media monitor and promote media coverage on our website and Twitter. Maintain our database of journalists.

Person Specification (skills, experience and competencies required in this post)

ESSENTIAL:

  • Graduate study (or equivalent educational attainment)
  • Substantial experience working in marketing and communications
  • An interest in human rights and social justice, and an ability to understand and identify with the work, ethos and values of Garden Court Chambers
  • Ability to quickly win the confidence of barristers
  • Experience of leading on the commissioning and design of digital and print marketing materials
  • Experience of organising and arranging events
  • Experience of writing or editing interesting and engaging copy for all marketing channels
  • Excellent standard of oral and written English with the ability to proof read to exacting standards
  • Media savvy and politically astute with an interest in current affairs
  • Experience of web and email marketing
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and growing Twitter accounts
  • Resourceful with the ability to work independently
  • Capable of multi-tasking marketing initiatives across a number of teams and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work flexibly to ensure that events are covered (this includes occasional evenings, for which time off is given)
  • Influencing and persuading skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to supervise others

DESIRABLE: one or more of the following:

  • Previous experience working for a barristers’ chambers or law firm
  • Previous experience working for an NGO/charity/campaign group connected with our areas of work
  • CIM or equivalent qualifications, evidencing a range of marketing competencies

Salary, Benefits and Terms and Conditions

  • This positions attracts a salary of circa £28,000 plus staff benefits
  • Hours: 09:00-18:00 Monday-Friday with time off in lieu available for additional evening and early morning hours. Holidays: 25 days per annum pro rata (excluding bank holidays but including three days between Christmas and New Year)
  • Interest-free loan for travel card (after probation)
  • Pension, including a 5% employer’s contribution after six months, and income-protection schemes

Senior Family Team Assistant

Reporting to: Family Practice Manager

Summary
Garden Court Chambers is one of the largest and most successful barristers’ chambers in the UK. Following rapid expansion in recent years, we now have over 180 barristers supported by a busy Clerking team. We are recognised as leaders in civil liberties, housing, immigration, family and public law and criminal defence. Our passion for human rights and social justice has shaped the development of law in these areas over the last 40 years. This is reflected in our ground-breaking cases, which hit the news headlines every week.

Due to continued growth and expansion we are now looking to recruit a Senior Team Assistant in our Family Law Team.

The post is offered on a temporary basis of 6-9 months and for 5 days per week.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience of at least 3 years clerking of family law ideally with a public funding background.
  • Ability to network and develop relationships with existing and new Clients,
  • Good business development skills, ability to identify and develop opportunities,
  • Ability to understand Client requirements and match to available barristers,
  • Ability to negotiate and agree contractual terms,
  • Attention to detail to manage diaries keeping barristers and Clients up to speed,
  • Good organisation skills to ensure case administration is accurate and up to date,
  • Proactive and willing to take initiative,
  • Professional attitude with good client relationship building skills,
  • Good team player.

Desirable:

  • Good systems knowledge (LEX (or equivalent), Windows),
  • Good understanding of the business processes involved.

Revenue Controller

Reporting to: Head of Revenue Control

Summary

We are recognised as leaders in criminal defence, civil liberties, housing, immigration, family and public law. Our passion for human rights and social justice has shaped the development of law in these areas over the last 40 years. We are looking to recruit an experienced Revenue Controller with either a law firm or chambers background to work as a member of the team responsible for the management of a Case from inception through to billing and fee collection. This requires a sound knowledge of systems, time recording, WIP, Billing and the Credit Control processes.

The successful candidate will work with the Fee Earners to implement changes to existing working practices and initiate improvements in the use of the Case Management software, to effectively manage the case inception, time recording and WIP, to encourage prompt billing and improve debt recovery procedures.

  • Experience of Billing and Credit Control functions
  • Good systems knowledge, especially Case management systems
  • Experience of Management reporting, including CRM analysis for Business Development and Marketing

Deputy Immigration Practice Manager

Reporting to: Immigration Practice Manager

Summary

Garden Court Chambers is a large and dynamic Barristers’ Chambers with a team of staff who provide the clerking, financial, marketing and administrative support for over 190 barristers. We are a diverse set, specialising in all aspects of human rights and social welfare law, including crime, family law, housing, immigration, and civil law. We are based in a Grade 1 listed building in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, close to Holborn tube station and a range of shops, bars and restaurants.

We now have a vacancy within the Immigration Law Practice Team – Deputy Immigration Practice Manager.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious person to assist and support our Immigration Practice Team. The successful candidate will have experience in either solicitors’ firm or within a Barristers’ Chambers, ideally in dealing with immigration cases.

The post requires good organisational and administrative skills, and excellent interpersonal skills and  telephone manner.

This post would suit candidates from paralegal, clerking, business development or other similar backgrounds.

Administrative Assistant

Reporting to: Head of Operations and HR

We are recognised as leaders in civil liberties, housing, immigration, family and public law and criminal defence. Due to continued growth and expansion we are now looking to recruit an Administrative Assistant.

This is an important role offering administrative support to all our clerking teams and will include the following:

  • Dealing with all the incoming and outgoing post
  • Delivering papers to/from court and other chambers
  • Assisting with copying and scanning of document bundles
