Revenue Controller – Criminal Billing

Reporting to: Head of Finance

Based within: Revenue Control Team

Summary

Garden Court Chambers is one of the largest and most successful barristers’ chambers in the UK. Following rapid expansion in recent years, we now have over 180 barristers supported by a busy operations team. We are looking to recruit an experienced Revenue Controller with either a law firm or chambers background to work as a member of the team responsible for the management of a Case from inception through to billing and fee collection. This requires a sound knowledge of systems, time recording, WIP, Billing and the Credit Control processes.

The successful candidate will work with the Fee Earners to implement changes to existing working practices and initiate improvements in the use of the Case Management software, to effectively manage the case inception, time recording and WIP, to encourage prompt billing and improve debt recovery procedures.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience of Billing and Credit Control functions
  • Good systems knowledge, especially Case management systems
  • Experience of Management reporting, including CRM analysis for Business Development and Marketing
  • Experience of Time Recording functions
  • Experience of WIP and billing parameters
  • Good understanding of the business processes involved
  • Knowledge of Legal Aid
  • Proactive and willing to take initiative
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Professional attitude with good client relationship building skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good team player

Desirable:

  • Experience in Criminal Law billing and/or credit control.

SALARY, BENEFITS AND TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • This position attracts a salary of circa £35,000 pa, plus a range of staff benefits.
  • Hours: 9.00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday, with one hour for lunch
  • Holidays: 25 days per annum (plus bank holidays)

Senior Family Team Assistant

Reporting to: Family Practice Manager

Summary

We are recognised as leaders in civil liberties, housing, immigration, family and public law and criminal defence. Our passion for human rights and social justice has shaped the development of law in these areas over the last 40 years. This is reflected in our ground-breaking cases, which hit the news headlines every week.

Due to continued growth and expansion we are now looking to recruit a Senior Team Assistant in our Family Law Team.

The post is offered on a temporary basis of 6-9 months and for 5 days per week.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience of at least 3 years clerking of family law ideally with a public funding background.
  • Ability to network and develop relationships with existing and new Clients,
  • Good business development skills, ability to identify and develop opportunities,
  • Ability to understand Client requirements and match to available barristers,
  • Ability to negotiate and agree contractual terms,
  • Attention to detail to manage diaries keeping barristers and Clients up to speed,
  • Good organisation skills to ensure case administration is accurate and up to date,
  • Proactive and willing to take initiative,
  • Professional attitude with good client relationship building skills,
  • Good team player.

Desirable:

  • Good systems knowledge (LEX (or equivalent), Windows),
  • Good understanding of the business processes involved.

Deputy Immigration Practice Manager

Reporting to: Immigration Practice Manager

Summary

Garden Court Chambers is a large and dynamic Barristers’ Chambers with a team of staff who provide the clerking, financial, marketing and administrative support for over 190 barristers. We are a diverse set, specialising in all aspects of human rights and social welfare law, including crime, family law, housing, immigration, and civil law. We are based in a Grade 1 listed building in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, close to Holborn tube station and a range of shops, bars and restaurants.

We now have a vacancy within the Immigration Law Practice Team – Deputy Immigration Practice Manager.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious person to assist and support our Immigration Practice Team. The successful candidate will have experience in either solicitors’ firm or within a Barristers’ Chambers, ideally in dealing with immigration cases.

The post requires good organisational and administrative skills, and excellent interpersonal skills and  telephone manner.

This post would suit candidates from paralegal, clerking, business development or other similar backgrounds.
