The textbook is a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the legal obligations of local housing authorities and social housing providers in relation to the provision of permanent and temporary housing accommodation under Parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Act 1996, and the rights of those seeking such accommodation.

The fifth edition, published by Lexis Nexis in July 2018, has been substantially revised and includes:

  • coverage of the law (as of June 2018) in both England and Wales;
  • a comprehensive account of the changes to homelessness law in England introduced by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, together with the updated Homelessness Code of Guidance for Local Authorities;
  • discussion and analysis of all of the latest case law from the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court on vulnerability, eligibility, intentional homelessness, the allocation of social housing and more;
  • a review of the latest county court and ombudsman decisions and policy developments.

Supporting materials, including legislation (in consolidated form) and codes of guidance, are provided as Appendices for ease of reference.

The book is aimed at housing options advisers, homelessness officers, housing staff working for local housing authorities and social housing providers on allocations and lettings, housing lawyers, and all those advising on homelessness and housing allocation.

You can purchase your copy from the Lexis Nexis online store.

Liz Davies, Connor Johnston and Tessa Buchanan are all members of the Garden Court Chambers Housing Team.
