Gurpal Virdi, a retired police officer, has been found not guilty of the indecent assault of a male prisoner and misconduct in public office. The jury unanimously acquitted Mr Virdi after just 50 minutes of deliberations.

The complaint was made by someone who Mr Virdi had arrested in 1986. In 2000 Mr Virdi, who served in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) for 30 years, won record damages from the MPS for unlawful discrimination.
