The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is Great Britain’s national equality body and has been awarded an ‘A’ status as a National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) by the United Nations.

The Commission is a non-departmental public body, created under the provisions of the Equality Act 2006.  The Commission covers England, Scotland and Wales, where it is responsible for encouraging compliance with the Human Rights Act 1998, and has been granted powers to enforce equality legislation on age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, and sexual orientation.

Members of the panel of counsel will be preferred providers of legal services to the EHRC, including representation and advice. These services will support advisory, influencing, regulatory and enforcement work across the equality and human rights spheres, including:

• Litigation in domestic and European courts
• Compliance actions
• Inquiries, investigations and assessments
• Enforcement of the public sector equality duty
• Drafting codes of practice, consultation responses, briefings or guidance
• Monitoring compliance with UN treaties

Members of the panel will serve for a four year term.
