ProfileRichard Harvey joins Garden Court's Crime team from Tooks chambers. Richard has a wide ranging and formidable international and domestic reputation in Human Rights, Crime and Tribunals of Inquiry, International Criminal Tribunals, Criminal Appeals and Inquests. In the United States Richard's practice has included Governmental Representation and acting as counsel to Government of South Africa since 1996, advising on inter-governmental relations, contracts and compliance with US legislation standards. Richard also acted as counsel assisting President Jean Bertrand Aristide in prosecuting human rights crimes in Haiti. In addition Richard was appointed counsel on ad hoc basis advising governments of various Asian, African and Caribbean countries, including Namibia, Cape Verde, Trinidad & Tobago and Vietnam. Richard's Human Rights Representation includes periods as counsel to ANC of South Africa in US since 1982, advising representatives to United Nations in anti-apartheid issues; counsel to SWAPO of Namibia in US, 1982-1999; advising SWAPO representative to United Nations. In addition Richard acted as counsel to Friends of Sinn F←in of Ireland, advising President of Sinn Fein in relations with United States elected officials General Litigation Practice: - federal and state criminal litigation;
- major criminal defence cases involving murder, armed robbery,etc
- public interest group representation;
- advice and litigation on race and gender discrimination.
