Helen Curtis
Practice Helen is a specialist criminal defence practitioner with a broad range of jury trial experience in cases covering the spectrum of criminal allegations up to conspiracy cases alleging serious fraud, drug importation or supply, armed robbery and the manufacture of false passports. Helen is regularly instructed as junior counsel in cases of murder and fraud and has been instructed in this capacity in the successful appeal of Donna Tinker (murder reduced to manslaughter), Lucky Jacobs, a defendant in the Yarlswood Immigration Detention Centre case and the appeal of Dudley, Maynard and Clarke. Helen has particular experience in the sympathetic representation of mentally disordered offenders including fitness to plead issues and brings this approach to assist more vulnerable defendants generally in the trial process. Helen also undertakes the representation of families at inquests, particularly where the death occurs in custody. Judicial review arising from criminal proceedings also forms part of her practice.
