PracticeBirinder specialises in family law, with a particular focus in the areas of children (both public and private law) and domestic violence. She practises at all levels, her private law work includes child abduction. In public law Birinder represents local authorities, parents, and children and has been instructed in cases involving the Official Solicitor. Birinder has a particular interest in the areas of race and human rights within family law, and she has provided training seminars and addressed a series of national conferences on these issues. She prides herself on approaching her practice with a commitment to focused, passionate and sensitive advocacy. BackgroundBefore studying law, Birinder Kang worked at the Racial Attacks Monitoring Project, a campaigning organisation which gave advice and assistance to those experiencing racial and police harassment. Her commitment to highlighting the injustices faced by Britain's black communities was further explored during her postgraduate studies, her MPhil thesis focused on 'Black women's experiences of the criminal justice system'. Birinder has continued her work in anti-racism through voluntary and campaigning activities with the Newham Monitoring Project and the Southall Monitoring Group. She has also worked extensively in the area of domestic violence through the Newham Asian Women's Project and Imkaan.
