Alastair defends in all areas of serious crime. He represents claimants in civil actions against the police and Home Office (prisons).

Alastair is increasingly being instructed as a leading junior (armed robbery, fraud and riot). He has appeared in a number of the most serious and complex frauds in recent years:

• Ahmed and others West Midlands Fraud Centre 1998 (VAT fraud on mobile phones)
• Murfitt and others Southwark CC 2000 (long firm fraud)
• Poopalarajah and others Southwark CC 2001 (VAT fraud on imported gold)
• Cale and others Birmingham CC 2002 (international VAT fraud).
• Offen and others [2001] Cr App R 24 (automatic life sentences)
• D [2001] 1 Cr App R 13 (leading authority on duplicity and jury unanimity)

Animal rights cases include Barry Horne Bristol CC 1997 (conspiracy to commit arson with intent).

Murder trials include Ras and Sundkvist Birmingham CC 2003 (SA contract killers for 'black widow' Ann Trigwell).

Alastair works regularly in the Midlands, Manchester and elsewhere.

Other activities

Before coming to the Bar, Alastair was a university law lecturer.
