PracticeAdrian practices across the range of housing law. His practice encompasses many types of possession claims both in cases of security of tenure and outside security of tenure. His work has a significant focus on acting for occupiers in complicated anti-social behaviour cases, and raising public law defences as well as succession cases, mortgage possession proceedings and claims under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996. He has wide-ranging experience of cases involving mental health or capacity issues and being instructed by the Official Solicitor on behalf of protected parties. Public law work is also a particular focus of his practice, centring on homelessness appeal in county courts and judicial review cases in the High Court in housing and community care. He also regularly advises and represents clients in areas such as right to buy cases, unlawful eviction, harassment and disrepair. Adrian's approach to providing effective representation is to combine cogent and efficient advocacy with a sympathetic, practical and problem-solving approach to advising clients.
Training Adrian has extensive experience of providing training to solicitors, caseworkers and other advisors in housing and community care related issues.
PublicationsAdrian has contributed chapters to the forthcoming Housing Law Handbook, (Law Society, 2009). He previously compiled Legislating for Human Rights: The Parliamentary Debates on the Human Rights Bill (Hart, 2000) and co-authored 'Hate Speech, Holocaust Denial and International Human Rights Law', European Human Rights Law Review (1999). Background Adrian came to the bar through a commitment to human rights. He previously worked as a legal officer for Liberty doing policy work and test case litigation. He was also involved for many years in the management of Brixton Advice Centre. Other activitiesAdrian worked as a legal officer for Liberty (the National Council for Civil Liberties), including policy and test case litigation.
